WEST FARGO – Moxie Java is expanding its caffeinated reach to The Lights housing and commercial development south of Interstate 94.

The java joint will be owned by Dave and Julie Schick, who also own the Moxie Java at Fargo’s West Acres mall.

It will be on the corner of The Lights complex, 3100 Sheyenne St., facing the intersection of Sheyenne Street and 32nd Avenue. It will be next to women’s clothing boutique Jade + Jasper.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with EPIC companies to open an additional location at The Lights in West Fargo,” Dave Schick said in an email Wednesday, July 29.

“We have thought about a second location for years. Knowing what a huge undertaking an additional location would be, we never quite had the appetite to take it on. The Lights is such a unique place with the event plaza, residential, and commercial tenants, all connected with a skyway system. It’s beautiful. There is a lot of buzz surrounding it. This was the right place for us to take that chance and expand,” Schick said.

“EPIC Companies is so excited to add Moxie Java to EPIC at The Lights. A coffee shop brings a gathering space for that part of town along with a drive-thru for residents to be able to easily access. We look forward to being able to grab a coffee there later this year,” McKenzy Olson, EPIC’s vice president of marketing and public relations, said Wednesday.

Plans have been submitted to build out the shell for the 1,427-square-foot coffee shop. It can accommodate 25 to 30 customers inside, with The Lights’ plaza also available in nice weather. A drive-through window is planned on the south side of the shop, with customers gaining access from 32nd Avenue, and exiting onto Sheyenne.

“We always knew a second location had to have a drive-thru, which we will have. We’re also excited about the plaza space converting to have an ice rink in the winter time. There is a warming area that will sit right outside our back door. We hope Moxie Java will be a perfect fit when it’s time to warm up,” Schick said.

The Lights Moxie Java menu will be similar to the mall location, with French and medium roast, dessert and decaffeinated coffees, plus blended drinks, energy drinks, soda, juice and water. Moxie Java bakes fresh pastries daily and sells sandwiches and “Special K” bars.

The Lights is a mixed-use commercial, residential and activities complex that will include more than 20 businesses and nearly 300 one- and two-bedroom apartments when completed.
